Ok I ventured into updating the RHEL packages to include the 32 bit versions of the packages on the 64 bit server. The tools told me only the libs it was looking for. I first had to figure out what package had the needed library. This was done with
up2date –whatprovides=libgcc_s.0.1
Which comes back
libgcc-3.4.6-8.i386
Next grab the package with
up2date –arch=i386 libgcc-3.4.6-8.i386
and check the lib exists with
ldconfig -p | grep libgcc

I have used Quicken since 1995! OK Product. But for the last ~3 years I have run into the error when updating “download error reading update file”. Sometime just deleting the data in the folder “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Quicken\Inet\Common\patch\Update” then letting quicken try again works. This last time it did not and I just ran the QWPATCH.exe that is in this directory. That worked. This is clearly a problem for more than just myself and the annoying part is that intuit has not fix a problem that has existed for about 3 years now. My annoyance is that this directory is under ALL USERS and the last place I end up looking for the update files. I am blogging this so I can go back and find the directory quickly again the next time update fails; Because at this rate quicken will never fix this. Next up with Quicken. WHY does it not handle renaming rules correctly. Looks like a field size issue and the auto create setting up an exact match instead of a starts with. Small issues but annoying non-the-less.

Out of the corner of my eye I could have sworn I saw my Dell FP1800 monitor flicker. About 2 days later I used it in the morning and when I returned to check hours for a store online it would not turn on. So in my well it’s broken and not under warranty mentality I went straight to pulling the unit apart. I tested for power coming from the power supply board and got nuttin but 0V on every pin. A quick online search revealed these monitors have a 6870T445D10 power supply from LG. The problematic part is a 3AS01 ic part obtainable from obsolete part resellers. If you have such a monitor check out “resurrectek” on ebay. For $9.99, including shipping, I got a replacement part and a rather nice instruction sheet that also called out that the diode packs D906 and D903 tend to have failed solder connections and blow the 3AS01. Sure enough the solder connections were bad on these. After cleaning those up and replacing the 3AS01 the supply worked great. So for $10 I have my monitor working again less than a week from when it died. Again if you search turns up this page check out “resurrectek” on ebay. Good price and quick shipping even over the Thanskgiving weekend!

I stumbled across an application called quicksilver today while looking for some way to get tasks from entourage into an excel spreadsheet. This application takes organization and task simplification to a whole new level. Here is an introducation to Quicksilver via Macbreak. Guess Macbreak is now another feed I need to track in iTunes. Here is a link about integrating Applescript into Quicksilver.
Also I ran across a website called codefetch. This site will warrent further checking when I have coding needs!
